Fernanda Durazo
Supporting Artist, Bloomington
Raised in Bloomington, Fernanda attempts to record the ongoing social and environmental issues that have happened in her neighborhood, as well as the Inland Empire. Her work is an attempt to document the changing landscape of her hometown and bring awareness to the environmental impact it brings to communities like hers. For “Bloomington Speaks” Fernanda rallied fellow residents to remember what Bloomington was before the warehouse boom and envision a new future for residents like her. You can see more of her work with Bloomington poet Jenifer Lopez in issue 1.1 of The Space zine.
“Being a part of this project has been a journey. I’ve connected with my own community and created an opportunity for us to have a space to express our feelings, thoughts, and history. I’m hoping that the residents of Bloomington have not given up. It has been difficult for me to continue documenting the destruction of entire neighborhoods, but with this project I feel hopeful.”
